AECOM Powers Up a Green Approach to Saving Money and Natural Resources

Grady Pridgen, Inc. a leader in green applications for industrial and office use has prepared a new green space for AECOM Environment (AECOM), a global provider of environmental management services to industry and government. In the build-out of new office space, AECOM has earned a LEED Silver rating for its Westbay Corporate Center location. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard is a nationally recognized benchmark for environmentally sustainable buildings.

AECOM achieved its silver rating by meeting more than 20 LEED criteria. Its offices will use 43-percent less water and 23-percent less energy for air-conditioning than standard buildings. Another achievement: one-fifth of its building materials and 89-percent of its furnishings were recycled. The offices exceed ventilation standards by 30-percent and feature low-emission paints, carpets and adhesives.

For years, businesses that focused on green building standards made the necessary investments with only limited measurement of the actual impact. Today, investments in green building standards are good for the bottom line (saving money in energy, water and other costs) they are good for the environment (preserving air quality, water resources and others) and they create healthy workspaces for employees reducing absenteeism and increasing productivity (through better lighting, reduced emissions from carpet and paint and other smart products and practices.)

Today, a green investment is smart business.

According to Mack Astorga, AECOM St. Petersburg Office Manager, "As a global environmental company, it is important that our operations, as well as our services, promote environmental sustainability."

AECOM follows the model of other facilities at Westbay, including Atlantis International, which earned the silver rating for commercial interiors.

“Not everyone can make a significant investment to “go green’,” said Kramer. “But, everyone can do something.”
