Light Control & LEED: How Lighting Controls Helps Achieve LEED in New Construction

Learning Objectives

According to the department of Energy national figures, lighting consumes approximately 38% of the energy in a commercial building.
Learn how lighting controls could potentially save up to 60% of that electrical consumption, primarily through Daylighting with electrical and natural light controls.
By comparing the previous version of LEED (LEED 2.2) with the most recent one (LEED 2009), the participant will be able to identify the key changes in LEED 2009 as it relates to lighting controls
Using LEED, the participant will be able to determine how light controls and their manufacturer can effectively contribute to LEED certification in new construction and major renovation projects
Through examination of the provided case study, the participant will be able to describe how the Plaza at PPL Center used lighting controls to meet LEED certification objectives.

This course is presented by Juan Figueroa who is a territory Manager at Lutron Electronics, a world leader in lighting controls. He has over five years experience working with the design community in designing and specifying lighting controls and solar shades – including daylight harvesting systems – for commercial and residential applications.

Juan is a LEED Accredited professional, and has assisted design teams in the specifications and implementation of lighting controls and solar shade control on different projects. Juan is also a member of AIA, IIDA, ASID and USGBC.
